Peggy,
My daughter struggles with obsessive thoughts and this is how she is trying to cope:
In the Bible it say to take every thought captive unto the obedience of Jesus Christ.
This implies that we have the power over our thoughts. It also tells What to think about. Again implying that we have control over what thoughts we entertain.
The verse "In everything give thanks " helps us to put life into prospective. We have many blessings and God is a good God who loves us and has given us a free will.
We don't thank God for the bad but we thank Him for the blessings we DO have during the bad and good times.
